Her husband Prince Philipp of Hesse cozied up with Adolf Hitler.
She and her husband were placed under house arrest when Italy surrendered.
Mafaldine pasta was named in her honor.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was suspected by Hitler of working against the German war effort.
She was arrested by the Gestapo and held prisoner at Buchenwald concentration camp.
She was severely injured when the allies bombed the camp.
Her arm was badly infected and was amputated a few days before she died.
Her children were protected by the Vatican after Italy's surrender.
The Italian government put her image on a post stamp in 1997.
