His father did not want him to be an artist and his only other interest seemed to be chemistry.
He discovered that molecules mirrored each other and that left sided molecules and right sided molecules did different things.
He discovered properties of alcoholic fermentation.
Nazi occupiers in Paris commanded his crypt be open, rather than comply, Joseph Meister committed suicide (Meister was the first person treated by Pasteur for rabies and later became an employee at the Pasteur Institute - 1940).
