Radio Personality

The Resume

    (January 1, 1934-June 18, 1984)
    Born in Chicago, Illinois
    Former attorney
Liberal talk show host on various Denver stations

Why he might be annoying:

His first marriage was annulled after 30 days. (‘She said we couldn’t sleep together unless we got married. So I married her.’)
One reviewer wrote that he had ‘a voice like sandpaper.’
He summed up his abrasive style as, ‘I stick it to the audience and they love it.’
He would tick off callers to the point where they started sputtering, then ridicule them.
Apparently not having enough fun with people who voluntarily called in, he called up Ellen Kaplan (a Lyndon LaRouche follower who had spotted Henry Kissinger in an airport, shouted a question at him implying that he was a pedophile, then was attacked by Henry’s wife, Nancy) at home, berated her until she hung up, then spent the rest of his program mocking her (March 5, 1982).
After receiving numerous listener complaints, station KOA suspended him for a month.

Why he might not be annoying:

He gave up his law practice and went into alcohol rehab after suffering seizures.
When the seizures continued after he completed rehab, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor; after it was surgically removed, he made a full recovery.
He was gunned down in the driveway of his home by members of the Order, a white supremacist group.
He had been on an Order hit list, along with TV producer Norman Lear and Southern Poverty Law Center founder Morris Dees
Two members of the Order were convicted on civil rights violations and federal conspiracy charges related to the killing and spent the rest of their lives in prison.
His life and death inspired the play ‘Talk Radio’ by Eric Bogosian.
