World Leader
    (1952- )
    Born in Fada, Chad
Trained as a Cadet Officer (1975)
Studied in Aeronautic Institute, Amaury-le-Grange, France (1976-1978)
Studied in Superior Academy of War, Paris (1985)
    President of Chad (December 2, 1990- )
For a world leader, he looks like a computer geek.
He happily engages in cronyism, favoring his ethnic group, the Zaghawa, even though they represent only 1.5% of Chad's population.
He overthrew his predecessor through a coup.
When World Bank gave him $3.7 million to build an oil pipeline, he spent it all on the military in order to keep himself in power (2000).
As a result, Forbes Magazine called Chad the world's most corrupt country (2006).
He has four wives and ten children.
The Sudanese government has accused him of supporting insurgents in Darfur.
He added 'Itno' on his surname, making his full name 'Idriss Deby Itno'.
He is a stubborn man who constantly ignores his own advisers, resulting in a severe loss of support in 2006.
His presidency has been criticized for widespread corruption and political repression, which resulted in his opponents boycotting the 2006 election because of vote rigging.
Members of his ethnic group are being harassed by the Janjaweeds in Darfur.
One of his sons, Brahim, was a disgrace to him because he got involved in a Paris nightclub brawl and that he possessed an unlicensed pistol and 375 grams of marijuana (2006).
That same son was later killed in his apartment's parking garage (2007).
He fought a rebellion that was supposedly linked to the War in Darfur.
He took a tough stance against a French 'charity' that tried to abduct Chadian children and put them in adoption in France.
