    Painted ‘Rideau, cruchon et compotier,’ ‘Madame Cézanne in Red Armchair,’ ‘Apples and Oranges,’ ‘Lake at Annecy,’ ‘The Card Player,’ ‘Boy in Red Waistcoat,’ ‘The Great Pine,’ ‘The Great Bathers’ and ‘Mont Sainte-Victoire’
    He refused to shake hands with people.
    He rarely bathed (he WAS French).
    He was a recluse who shunned society.
    He didn’t tell his family that he had a common-law wife and child.
    He received a huge inheritance, and didn’t have to work for a living.
    He was moody, and destroyed many early paintings in fits of self-doubt.
    His paintings were extremely influential.
    He is often called ‘The Father of Modern Art.’
    His painting style continued to evolve over the years.
    His friend Émile Zola published a novel that satirized him as a failed artist.
    He eventually married his mistress.
    At the end of his life, he collapsed doing what he loved – painting.
