One-hit wonder with 'Seasons in the Sun' (1974)
Why he might be annoying
He is a one-hit wonder.
Without a doubt, 'Seasons in the Sun' is one of the sappiest songs ever recorded, and remains a staple on 'worst songs ever' lists.
He divorced his first wife, Susan Pesklevits, his bandmate in a now-forgotten pop act, The Poppy Family (1973).
He was arrested on spousal abuse charges, in addition to improper storage of a firearm (2001).
Irish boy band Westlife and Blink-182 have recorded covers of 'Seasons in the Sun.'
Why he might not be annoying
He is an environmentalist.
He has had much success as a producer, producing albums for The Beach Boys, D.O.A. and Nana Mouskouri.
'Seasons in the Sun' spent over 3 months on US charts and over 4 months on Canadian charts.
The song became the then-best-selling single in Canadian history, with a total of 11 million copies sold, and won him three Canadian Juno Awards.
Despite his parents' wishes for him to become an architect, he followed his own wishes of pursuing a career in music.
Other artists to cover his hit include Nirvana and Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.
