    His nickname was 'Dutch.'
    His William & Mary football team was forced to forfeit the 1943 season due to a lack of players on the roster.
    He never played a game at the professional level.
    He posted a 2-12 record in his lone season as the Dodgers head coach.
    He was considered a perfectionist by former players.
    He served as the athletic director at both William & Mary and Auburn.
    He was the first head coach and general manager of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats franchise.
    He guided the Tiger-Cats franchise to its first Grey Cup championship (1953).
