Why he might be annoying:

His title reign was short-lived because his partner, Bob Backlund, already held a title and one man could only hold one belt at a time.
He was never able to fully emerge from Bruno Sammartino’s shadow.
When he was inducted into the WWF Hall of Fame, he didn’t show up at the ceremony.
During the wrestling boom in the 80’s, many of the fans were kids who just started watching wrestling and didn’t know who he was nor what he accomplished and he wasn’t able to get over with them, leaving the company shortly after.

Why he might not be annoying:

He’s the first person to win the WWF Triple Crown (all three of the company's titles).
He was voted Wrestler of the Year in PWI in 1972.
His match with Fred Blassie in 1971 remains the largest live crowd in the history of wrestling in California.
He was popular in the East Coast, especially with Hispanic fans that looked up to him since there were few Hispanic wrestlers of his caliber at the time.
His match with Bruno Sammartino at Shea Stadium in 1972 remains a classic as they wrestled to a 75-minute draw.
