Why Honduras might be annoying
From 1821 to 1974, there were at least 120 changes in leadership.
Hurricane Alma killed 51 (June 1966) and Hurricane Fifi kills over 5,000 (September 1974).
A 7.5 earthquake killed 22,778 in Guatemala & Honduras (February 4, 1976).
The people produce some cannabis primarily for local consumption.
No one is sure of what Tegucigalpa means. It is believed that it is derived from the Nahuatl Indian and might mean 'in the dwellings of sharp-pointed rocks.'
The British seized Tigre Island in Gulf of Fonseca from Honduras (October 16, 1849).
Nicaragua captured Tegucigalpa from Honduras (February 24, 1894).
US invaded Honduras a few times to maintain political stability (March 21, 1907, January 9, 1912, September 11, 1919 and February 28, 1924).
Nicaragua, El Salvador & Honduras formed a short-lived confederation (June 1895).
Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras & El Salvador signed a Pact of Union (January 19, 1921), it was dissolved a year later (January 29, 1922).
Honduras and El Salvador broke diplomatic relations due to fighting during soccer match (June 27, 1969). Weeks later the 'Futbol War' killed 1,000 (July 14, 1969).
They claimed Swan Island (an island that the U.S. CIA used to monitor Cuba), so the CIA abandoned it and just gave it to them.
Why Honduras might not be annoying
Natural resources are rich in gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc and iron.
Honduras & El Salvador signed a peace accord from the 'soccer war' of 1969 and settled a boundary dispute (November 18, 1980).
During the '70s, they were the biggest U.S. investment (via United Brands).
United Brands paid wages 10X that of other companies, put up schools and towns for workers.
