    Born in Madrid, Spain
    Mayte Mateos and Maria Mendiola
Recorded the singles 'Yes Sir, I Can Boogie' (1977) and 'Sorry, I'm A Lady' (1977)
Performed 'Parlez-Vous Francais?' at the Eurovision Song Contest (1978)
They were huge everywhere except the US.
Although they are Spanish, they represented Luxembourg at Eurovision.
They broke up after Mendiola complained that her voice was not sufficiently prominent in the mix of their latest single.
Mateos and Mendiola each recorded an unsuccessful solo album.
Each singer then formed her own version of Baccara with a new singing partner.
They started as flamenco dancers before adding vocals to the act.
'Yes Sir, I Can Boogie' was a #1 hit in Britain and half a dozen other European countries and became one of a handful of singles to sell over 15 million copies.
They recorded in English, Spanish, French and German.
New Music Express wrote, 'Think what you like about Baccara, seen today their 1978 Eurovision performance has a certain style while their competition from that event looks dated and amateurish.'
Despite the break-up, the two singers remained friends, with Mendiola attending Mateos' wedding (and meeting her own future husband there).
