    The Colombian press reported him dead after he lapsed into a coma from a thyroid problem (1983).
    He died the same day that it was announced that he would receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Latin Grammys.
    He had forty #1 hits in Colombia.
    He collaborated with Celia Cruz and Shakira.
    Unlike a lot of Latin music stars, after hitting it big, he did not move to Miami but stayed in his homeland.
    His daughter Tania died from a heart defect (1985).
