Why he might be annoying:

He proposed the 'Compromise of 1850' which ended a threat of Civil War (well at least for the time being).
He ran unsuccessfully to be Governor of New York (1844).
The Whig party refused to nominate him for re-election (1852).
He ran unsuccessfully for President on the American Know Nothing Party (1856).

Why he might not be annoying:

His biggest claim to fame was having a bathtub installed in the White House (although it was probably installed before he was in the White House).
Whenever he went on trips he would bring back books for his wife, Abigail.
His wife established a White House library.
He was President when California became the 31st state (September 9, 1850).
He wrote a pamphlet urging the abolishment of religious tests given to judicial witnesses (he was unsuccessful).
