    (February 29, 1792-November 13, 1868)
Wrote 'Il Barbiere di Siviglia' ('The Barber of Seville,' 1816), 'La Cenerentola (1817),' 'Semiramide (1823)' and 'Guillaume Tell' ('William Tell,' 1829)
    He was fat and lazy.
His music from 'The Barber of Seville' - especially the line 'Figaro, Figaro, Figaro' - has been mocked in many cartoons and movies.
The premiere of this opera was a disaster, with singers tripping over things and a stray cat running around loose onstage.
He wrote birthday music every year for his dog.
    He retired at thirty-seven.
When his first wife died, he married a prostitute.
He didn't take himself too seriously.
    He loved to cook.
His overture from 'William Tell' was used as the 'Lone Ranger' radio and TV theme.
He is one of the all-time great opera composers.
