    She probably married her first husband because he had lots of money, he also got her American citizenship, they divorced 4 months later.
    Her second marriage was to her publicist, as a way of getting back at the guy she lived with for eight years. That marriage lasted just two days and she got it annulled, but the publicist Eddie Kolb sought to have her declared incompetent and put in a mental institution.
    She originally played under the name Vanessa Thomas, and told everyone to just call her Vanessa.
    She turned down an offer to pose in Playboy in the early 80s, citing that she wasn't offered enough money ($150,000)
    On her golf course, she had 100 fish living in a pond that was about to be drained relocated, and was later quoted: 'I'm not sure a man would have done that.'
    She regrets posing for sexy calendars in the 80s, citing that it caused her poor play that year, losing a bid for the LPGA Hall of Fame, and having few friends.

    She was mugged at a Miami Heat game and had her left ring finger broken, causing her to miss several months and revise her swing completely (1990).
    She is the 1st woman to completely design her own golf course (Walkabout Golf Club in Florida).
    She donated the proceeds from her 1983 pin-up poster to women's college golf teams.
    She created a foundation called Jan for Juniors, so she could spend time with children that she was unable to have (she had 3 miscarriages).
    Whether she likes it or not, her sex symbol status brought male fans to women's golf, and shattered the lesbian stereotypes that had hurt the LPGA.
