Why he might be annoying:

He punched Alex Rodriguez in the face during a game after Rodriguez was hit by a pitch by Bronson Arroyo (July 24, 2004).
Sources say that he told A-Rod that 'we don't hit .260 hitters' as A-Rod mouthed off at Arroyo.
He, along with 5 other teammates were suspended for 5 days.
He has trouble handling the knuckleball.
His nicknames are 'V-Tek' & 'Tekkie.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He captained the first Boston Red Sox team to win the World Series in 86 years (October 27, 2004).
Many teammates consider him the backbone of the Red Sox.
The picture of him jumping in the arms of closer Keith Foulke after the last out of the World Series was voted #1 Photo of 2004 on the MLB.com.
He is the only player in Georgia Tech history to have his jersey number retired (#33).
After re-signing for the Red Sox, GM Theo Epstein made him the official captain of the Red Sox, the third captain following Jim Rice and Carl Yastrzemski (December 24, 2004).
