Hockey Player
    (May 3, 1982- )
    Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Drafted 16th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft
Forward for the Philadelphia Flyers (2005-2008) and the Columbus Blue Jackets (2008-2014)
He sat out the entire 2003-04 season when he couldn't reach an entry level contract agreement with the Canucks.
Despite being born and raised in Pittsburgh, he passed on a chance to play for his hometown Penguins, electing to sign an entry level contract with the cross-state rival Flyers.
He was traded to the Blue Jackets for virtually nothing.
Despite his actual birth name being Richard Allen, he prefers to go by R. J. (Richard Junior).
He decided to forego his senior season of NCAA eligibility with hopes of turning pro, which never materialized.
He is the second native of Pittsburgh, behind Ryan Malone to play in the NHL.
His trade to Columbus was seen as a homecoming of sorts since he played his college hockey at Ohio State University.
He recorded 116 points in 26 games during his final year of high school hockey.
He scored the first playoff goal in the history of the Columbus Blue Jackets franchise (2009).
He grew up a huge Penguins fan and lists Mario Lemieux as being the main inspiration for wanting to pursue a hockey career.
