    Born in Plainfield, New Jersey
Won silver (1952) and gold (1956) Olympic medals in the decathlon
Halfback for the Cleveland Browns (1957) and in the Canadian Football League (1958-64)

He said about not making ESPN's Athletes of the Century list, 'I think a lot of those things are political. Michael Jordan was ESPN's boy for a while there, wasn't he?'

Why he might not be annoying:

As a senior, he was named best high school athlete by 'Sport' magazine, having scored 180 points in football, set state records in hurdles and high jump, and been named All-American in swimming.
At Indiana University, he lettered in both track and football.
He was let go by the Browns after just one year when he married a white woman.
He returned from Canada to his hometown to mentor underprivileged youth after the 1967 Newark riots.
He was the first person named to both the National Track and Field Hall of Fame (1999) and the International Swimming Hall of Fame (2012).
The New Jersey Sportswriters Association named him the New Jersey Athlete of the Century (2000).
