She and her second husband were refused visas by the United States.

She spoke fluent English, French and German.
Her family moved to England during WW II.
During Nazi Germany, she managed to work without an official permit without getting caught.
She made enough money to help support her family until they were finally able to reunite with her father in England.
She and her husband were later granted their visas into the United States.
She has been described as 'the thinking man's slinky, intelligent, almond eyed, sex symbol of the 1950's.'
She used her mother's maiden name as her screen name to dodge evil Nazi officials.
She became the first woman to win an Oscar in a foreign film.
