Outlaw
    (December 13, 1923-November 26, 2014)
    Born in London, United Kingdom
    Thief and gangster
Bodyguard for 'Boss of the Underworld' Billy Hill
Enforcer for the Richardson Brothers gang
Served a total of 42 years in prison
    Last sentence ended in 1989
Appeared in the film 'Hard Men' (1996)
At age eight, he was already part of a protection racket.
He deserted from the army during World War II.
He was once busted when a car he stole ran out of gas in a tunnel.
He was declared insane and transferred to high-security psychiatric hospitals three times.
As the Richardsons' enforcer, he used a pair of pliers to yank out the teeth of gang members judged to have been disloyal.
He led a riot at Parkhurst Prison (1969).
He said his youngest son Francis 'let me down' by never getting in trouble with the law.
A year before his death, police issued an ASBO (anti-social behavior order) against him after he threatened a fellow resident of his nursing care home who had sat in his favorite seat.
'The Daily Mail' wrote that his 'one redeeming feature was that he did not attempt to explain away his criminal behavior.'
He survived being shot in the head at close range in an attempted murder (1991).
He ran a coach tour of old gangland haunts in London and was reported to always be punctual and polite.
