U.S. Senator

The Resume

    (August 19, 1964- )
    Born in Nebraska City, Nebraska
Birth name is John Peter Ricketts
Son of TD Ameritrade founder, Joe Ricketts
Worked for Ameritrade from 1993 to 2016
Serves on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Cubs
40th Governor of Nebraska (elected 2014)
Republican Senator from Nebraska (assumed office January 2023)

Why he might be annoying:

He built his political capital as a CEO in his father's company.
He spent $11.3 million of his own money on his 2006 Senate campaign, making it the costliest campaign bid in state history to that point, only to lose to the Democrat incumbent by a margin of 36% to 64%.
The kiss of death for the Senate run might have been that both President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney went on the stump for him days before the election (falling victim to the GOP's horrible lame-duck midterm cycle).
Ironically, his gubernatorial win was very likely due to the same wave of anti-status quo sentiment, only this time against the Democrat Party.
He and his family spent nearly $5.5 million in an attempt to prevent Donald Trump from winning the GOP Presidential nomination, only to relent and endorse him as soon as Trump won out.
His family's use of their Our Principles PAC against Trump was such a badly kept secret that the candidate even tweeted about it: 'I hear the Rickets family ... are spending $'s against me. They better be careful, they have a lot to hide!'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He is an avid cyclist.
He cited his favorite bands as Train and Billy Joel.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Chicago.
He worked his way up from the call center of his father's business.
    He underwent knee replacement surgery.
He was supported in his gubernatorial bid by former Nebraska governor Kay Orr.
He beat out a crowded primary field of six candidates to win the GOP nomination in 2014.
He stayed true to his original promise to campaign for the GOP nominee no matter who won.
