Why he might be annoying:

    ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ started off as ‘A Week with Willi the Worm’ until his editor suggested that a green worm might not make for a very likable protagonist.
    When Pizza Hut surveyed US governors, asking them to name their favorite books from childhood (1999), George W. Bush named ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ – which was published when Bush was 23.
    He said of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s enduring popularity, ‘I truly didn't think of lasting success or anything like that. I mean, it's just a book.’

Why he might not be annoying:

    ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ has sold over 50 million copies – more than one per minute since its publication.
    In a School Library Journal survey (2012), ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ was named the second best children’s book of all time (behind Maurice Sendak’s ‘Where the Wild Things Are’).
    He designed a Google Doodle to celebrate the first day of Spring (2009).
    A jumping spider that imitates caterpillars was named Uroballus carlei in his honor (2019).
