Sports Executive

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He never played a game of organized hockey in his life.
He took all the credit in the media for the Tampa Bay Lightning's Stanley Cup victory when in reality, his predecessor Rick Dudley built the foundation of that team.
He sent the Lightning into salary cap hell following the lockout by signing Vincent Lecavalier, Brad Richards and Martin St. Louis to outrageous contracts.
After locking up the trio, he micromanaged the rest of the payroll with journeymen players.
Despite signing a contract extension, he walked away two years into the contract after Oren Koules and Len Barrie took over the team, stripping him of his authority in player personnel moves.
He continued the Flames trend of locking up players to no-movement clause contracts, further causing roster woes and salary cap issues.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a practicing lawyer before pursuing a career in sports management.
He won two championships in the NHL and minors combined (1997, 2004).
He strongly objected to former GM Rick Dudley over a proposed trade which would have sent Vincent Lecavalier to the Montreal Canadiens, a decision which would force Dudley to resign as the team's GM.
He oversaw the Lightning's transformation from perennial doormat to Stanley Cup champions in a two year span.
Despite being out of the NHL for two years, he accepted a job offer from the Flames, which would later become a permanent position as the team's GM.
