TV Series
    (January 14, 1972-March 25, 1977)
    Originally aired on NBC
Created by Norman Lear and Bud Yorkin
Redd Foxx as Fred G. Sanford
    Demond Wilson as Lamont Sanford
Premise: An old widowed junk dealer and his unemployed son create mischief trying to figure out ways to get money
Fred Sanford's big catch line during the show was yelling 'you big dummy' at Lamont.
Lamont was an unemployed (sign of things to come) 28 year old.
Although often compared to 'All in the Family,' the show never beat them in the Nielsen ratings.
In 1975, Redd walked off the show due to a contract dispute.
The show ended in 1977 because ABC gave Redd more money to do a variety show for them.
Redd tried bringing the show back in 1981 with 'Sanford,' but without Demond it flopped.
In a cruel twist of events, while Redd Foxx was actually dying of a heart attack, no one believed him at first because they thought he was emulating an old bit he use to do on the show to get Lamont to change his mind.
The comedy was risque and wasn't afraid of offending anyone.
It's still played on television 3 decades after it taped its last episode.
Despite Redd walking off the show in 1975, it continued on and had its highest ratings in its entire run.
The theme to the show was 'Street beater' by Quincy Jones.
Although Fred Sanford was shown as a cankerous, mean, old man, they would occasionally show his softer side lamenting over the loss of his wife or showing love to his son.
