    He was nicknamed Mamoo.

He clashed repeatedly with Rodgers and Hammerstein during the Broadway runs of 'Oklahoma!' and 'Carousel,' and as a result was passed over for the film versions.
His directing career came to an end after he was fired from his last two film projects, 'Porgy and Bess' (1959) and 'Cleopatra' (1963).

Why he might not be annoying:

His films were known for their innovative use of camera movement and sound.
He directed the first Technicolor film, 'Becky Sharp.'
His creative contribution to his films was so important that they sometimes carried the credit 'A Rouben Mamoulian Production,' even though he never actually produced any films.
