TV Series
    (September 17, 1963-August 29, 1967)
    Originally aired on ABC
David Janssen as Dr. Richard Kimble
Barry Morse as Lt. Philip Gerard
Bill Raisch as Fred Johnson (The One-Armed Man)
    Narrated by William Conrad
Premise: A doctor, falsely convicted of his wife’s murder, escapes and pursues his wife’s real killer as he eludes authorities
It was shot in black-and-white its first three seasons, then switched to color for its fourth and final season.
It probably caused people to be suspicious of those missing limbs.
There is a false rumor that claims that an alternate ending shows Kimble removing a fake arm, revealing him to be the true killer.
CBS produced an unnecessary and short-lived remake of the series (1999).
Despite the many similarities to the Sam Shepard case, creator Roy Huggins has persistently denied that he based the show on that case.
It's poor performance in syndications and reruns are blamed on the show having a conclusive ending.
Fans who met Raisch commented on how he faked missing an arm, unaware that he really is a one-armed man.
It inspired a 1993 hit movie of the same name starring Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones.
When the movie was released, both the series premiere and finale were shown on NBC, which is rare for a then-30-year-old show.
The climatic finale of the show was the highest-rated episode in television history until Dallas’ episode ‘Who Shot J.R’ surpassed it thirteen years later.
The concept has been frequently imitated in later shows.
TV Guide named it the best dramatic series of the 1960s (1993) and #36 on its ’50 Best Shows of All Time’ list (2002).
It was one of the first TV dramas to actually resolve itself with a conclusive ending.
