General manager for the Seattle Seahawks (1982-1989) and Carolina Panthers (1993-1997)

He spent his rookie season on an awful New York team.
He shares his name with a politician.
He only had one winning record as an interim head coach.
He was fired as general manager by owner Ken Behring in order to make financial changes on the Seattle Seahawks (January 1989).

He spent two years in the Army prior to his return to football as a Cleveland Brown.
He made an early touchdown with a fumble recovery against the Detroit Lions in the NFL Championship game (1954).

He was enshrined into Pro Football Hall of Fame (1984).
He hired Chuck Knox as the Seahawks' head coach as it spawned the team's first playoff run.
