    (December 7, 1793-August 3, 1879)
Born in Hoxton, England, United Kingdom
Best known for his portraits of John Keats

Why he might be annoying:

He is remembered more for his friendship with Keats than for his art.
Before leaving England with Keats, he fathered a son out of wedlock.
    He was a name dropper.
He fled England for the Isle of Jersey to escape his creditors (1853).
As British consul, he was constantly in hot water for overstepping his authority.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the only one of Keats' friends willing to travel with the poet to Italy.
His letters to friends are the only surviving account of Keats' final days.
In the preface of his elegy 'Adonais,' Percy Bysshe Shelley thanked Severn for his devotion to Keats.
He was a popular painter who exhibited at the Royal Academy 53 times.
He used his position as consul to free Italian political prisoners.
