TV Series
    (September 7, 1950-December 31, 1987)
    Aired on CBS (1950-1951), NBC (1954-1965), and Syndication (1966-1975, 1977-1978, 1987)
Hosted by Ralph Edwards (1950-1951), Jack Bailey (1954-1955), Bob Barker (1956-1975), Bob Hilton (1977-1978) and Larry Anderson (1987)
Based on the radio game show of the same name (aired 1940-1957 with Ralph Edwards as host)
Premise: Contestants must 'truthfully' answer a question (usually a riddle) or face the 'consequences' (usually a humiliating stunt)
The contestants were always asked a ridiculous question (ex. What is brought to the table cut, but never eaten?) and were given no time to answer, thus making the 'Truth' portion pointless.
The stunts usually involved the contestants dressing up in something stupid or getting messy in some way.
Attempts to revive the show in 1977 and in 1987 failed.
The cash prizes were usually pretty low.
It was a game played mostly for laughs.
It was the first game show aired on commercial TV and the first game show to be syndicated.
The stunts often led to the contestant being reunited with a long-lost loved one.
    It launched Bob Barker's career.
It ranked #21 on TV Guide's '50 Greatest Game Shows of All Time.'
