Why he might be annoying:

He was named 'Carlos' but had no Hispanic blood.
He spent a lot of time away from his wife.
Unlike Alvin York or Audie Murphy, he is largely unknown to the public because his line of work did not involve spectacular feats of bravery.
His biography costs $59.95 in some places.
Various companies have tried to capitalize on his fame in the shooting community by naming merchandise after him.
    His license plates read 'SNIPER.'
His commander was sometimes forced to restrict him to the base grounds for fear his exhaustion would hurt him.

Why he might not be annoying:

An award is named after him; it is presented annually to the Marine that contributes most to marksmanship.
He assassinated a North Vietnamese general by crawling inches at a time through the grass over 24 hours and killing his target from 800 yards distance.
He was awarded the Silver Star for saving 7 comrades' lives when their amtrac was hit by a mine.
He struck fear into the Viet Cong, saving hundreds of American lives.
They were so afraid of him that a $30,000 bounty was placed on his head; he killed every Viet Cong marksman that attempted to win the prize.
His marksmanship was so good that he shot right through the scope of one Viet Cong sniper, hitting him in the eye. This feat was copied in 'War of the Rats' and 'Saving Private Ryan.'
Along with his partner, he wiped out an entire North Vietnamese company over the course of a day (most of these kills are unrecorded but prisoners later corroborated the story).
He played a crucial role in the development of the US military sniper program.
