Baseball Player

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

While he was the general manager of the Braves for four years, he never played for a National League team himself.
Despite three winning seasons with the Texas Rangers, he lost his position as their general manager over their failed 1982 season.
He was the final surviving member of the last Fall Classic won by the Indians — who, in his lifetime, had only four other World Series berths.
His number 3 was not retired with him but with Earl Averill (1975).
    He loved cigars.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was also the oldest surviving player of three other teams.
He was a close friend of at least one American League president.
George Steinbrenner attempted to hire him as Yankees general manager, but landed him as a scout instead.
Ironically, he would become a scout for the only Original Eight American League team he never played in: the Red Sox.
His second marriage lasted more than 60 years.
