    As of 2009, a real estate agent in Alexandria, Virginia
    Her group is the reason why the legal drinking age in every US state is 21.
    She left the very group she founded in 1984.
    She divorced her first husband.
    Her daughter Cari was killed by a drunk driver in 1980.
    Her daughter's killer's lenient prison sentence, and previous DUI convictions, led her to found MADD.
    She left MADD in 1984 because she felt it became 'more prohibitionist' than she hoped. Some members wanted arrests for drivers with even a .01 BAC.
    Her intention with MADD was to raise awareness and lobby for tougher anti-DUI laws.
    Since founding MADD, the number of American alcohol-related auto fatalities has dropped from 21,000 in 1980 to 13,000 in 2007.
