Why she might be annoying:

She was 30 years younger than President John Tyler. She was 24 when she married 54 year old President John Tyler.
She saw slavery as a good thing, even writing that slavery is a 'civilizing influence and noted that their slaves lived better than the poor of London.'
Despite being a New Yorker and President John Tyler trying to preserve the union, she strongly supported the confederacy.
When her plantation was taken by the union, she ran back to New York, where her family rejected her. Her mom took her in.
She was a spendthrift.
Her nickname was Rose of Long Island.
She converted from Episcopalian to Roman Catholic.
She was an attention seeker.
She began seeking a husband at fifteen.
Like royalty, she insists on a court in waiting.
She decorated her wedding dais royalty with royal purple and ostrich plumes.

Upon hearing this, Julia fainted into President John Tyler's arms. Five months later they married (June 26, 1844). Dolley Madison always took pride in bringing them together.
She was the first woman to wed a sitting president.
She enjoyed the trappings of being the first lady and treated it almost like she was the Queen.
She loved to dance.
She was the then youngest first lady at 24.
She wore the pen her husband used to sign the annexation of Texas in a necklace.
She was a strong proponent for the annexation of Texas.

She used her own wealth to rebuild Sherwood Forest, her husband's Virginia plantation.
She made sure to give her kids the best education she could afford.
She was the first First Lady to have her portrait hung in the White House.
She died in the same hotel room her husband died in more than a quarter of a century earlier.
The press forgave many of her dalliances chalking it up to youthful exuberance.
