    (November 29, 1811-February 2, 1884)
Served as President of the Anti-Slavery Society (1865)
Fought for women's rights, universal suffrage and temperance
    He was a lawyer.
In the later portion of his life he wore goofy sideburns.
Until witnessing pro-slavery mobs in action in 1835 he gave very little support to abolitionist causes.
    He graduated Harvard Law School.
He opened a law office in Boston in 1834 and gave it up after witnessing a white mob attempt to lynch Negro abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison in 1835.
He criticized Abraham Lincoln for his lack of commitment to the abolition of slavery.
He devoted himself to obtaining the freedom of all slaves and served as Garrisons' replacement as President of the Anti-Slavery Society (1865).
He was a magnificent public speaker and published numerous papers on abolition.
After the passing of the 15th Amendment, he concentrated on women's rights, universal suffrage and temperance.
He once said 'Will the slave fight? If any man asks you, tell him No. But if anyone asks you will a Negro fight, tell him Yes!'
