Infomercial Personality

The Resume

    (1962- )
    Starred in infomercials for Soloflex
    Wrote ‘Peak Condition’ (1985)

Why he might be annoying:

He dropped out of the University of Wisconsin after a year.
A reviewer called ‘Peak Condition’ ‘more of a sexy photo album than a book about physical fitness.’ (Then again, maybe we should put that in the ‘Not Annoying’ section.)
In ‘Peak Condition,’ he criticized the current ‘exercise machine infatuation.’
He dropped out of sight, with Soloflex at one point offering a free t-shirt to the first reader of the company blog who could get them in touch with Madsen.
He was sentenced to two years in prison for embezzling nearly $250,000 from his uncle’s mortgage company (2010). (No word on if the arresting officers got t-shirts from Soloflex.)

Why he might not be annoying:

He earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Wisconsin as a gymnast.
Soloflex was losing money before the first infomercial featuring Madsen aired; four years later, pretax profits were over $50 million (1988).
Soloflex found an additional revenue stream by selling 70,000 beefcake posters of him.
A Washington Post profile described him as ‘genetically perfect.’
