    (July 6, 1946- )
Wrote 'Animal Liberation,' 'Practical Ethics,' 'How are We to Live? Ethics in the Age of Self-Interest' amongst others
    He is a utilitarian.
He wrote that it would be morally acceptable to allow severely retarded newborns to die within one month of their birth, before they form a sense of self (1995).
His 'infanticide' theory would have only applied to those who would be unable to live lives without debilitating pain or functional IQ's, and it would have been carried out without the family's consent.
    He is a vegetarian.
His book, 'Animal Liberation' is often counted as the beginning of the animal rights movement.
His critics often times usually do not read his writings and form conclusions on him based on rumor and hearsay.
He has changed his position since his 1995 article on severely retarded newborns. He now believes that the ethicalities of infanticide now depends upon each situation.
His detractors, usually conservative Christians, often make threats against his life... so it's okay to kill someone if you disagree with them, but not if you euthanize them to alleviate pain.
Due to the threats that he sometimes gets, he has to travel with body guards.
He's widely considered one of the greatest living ethical theorists.
His parents survived the Holocaust, although three of his grandparents did not.
