Why he might be annoying
Much of his opposition was of very poor quality with 24 opponents having less than 2 wins when they faced him, including 11 with no wins.
He didn't have a very good chin with 4 of his 5 losses coming by KO.
Early in his career his father threw him in against the vastly more experienced Danny 'Little Red' Lopez to as his father said 'get rid of that undefeated tag.'
When he refused to defend his lightweight title against the #1 contender, he was stripped of it. His father then created his own boxing organization, The World Athletic Association, made him its lightweight champion whereupon he got knocked out in his first defense of his title.
He was fired as a boxing commentator for the USA network when he noted on air that Ray 'Boom Boom' Mancini took 'a good punch for an Italian.'
He quit medical school to concentrate on his boxing career.
Why he might not be annoying
Despite the limited quality of his opposition, he clearly had a good punch with 71 of 80 wins coming by KO.
He was a clean and gentlemanly fighter with tremendous drive in the ring.
He never tried to make a comeback like so many fighters do to their regret.
He was quite bright.
He stayed out of trouble out of the ring during and after his professional career.
He was a very popular TV fighter.
At five foot ten he was usually much taller than his opponents and used his height to his advantage.
Before getting fired, he was an outstanding boxing commentator.
