Why she might be annoying
She took a part-time job as a switchboard operator to pay bills between acting gigs.
When she started her acting career she was known for her impatience and outspokenness, traits columnist Hedda Hopper was only to happy to report on.
Her movie career never got off the ground.
During filming of the made-for-TV movie 'The Boy in the Plastic Bubble' she met and fell in love with her co-star John Travolta, 17 years her junior.
Their May-December romance was detailed in a maudlin paperback, 'John & Diana; A Love Story.'
Why she might not be annoying
She was very active as a TV actress in the 60's and 70's, appearing in such shows as 'The Alfred Hitchcock Hour,' 'The Twilight Zone,' 'The Fugitive,' 'Gunsmoke' and 'Happy Days.'
She filmed four (some say five) episodes as the mother of the Bradford family in 'Eight Is Enough' when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and written off the show.
She died in Travolta's arms at age 41 (1977).
She was posthumously awarded an Emmy for her role in 'The Boy in the Plastic Bubble.' Travolta accepted the award for her (1977).
