    Though her father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 1994, she died three years before he did.

    During the 1980s she was a member of the California World Trade Commission, co-chairwoman of the Republican Party National Committee and chairwoman of the Republican Women's Political Action League.
    Though she stood by her father on many issues she differed with him on the right for a woman to get an abortion, believing the decision should be 'between a woman and her God.'
    She also felt Oliver North should have been court-martialed.
    Once her father developed Alzheimer's she became a board of director's member of the Alzheimer's Association and championed its cause as spokeswoman.
    She said of her stepmother, 'There's a special place in Heaven for caregivers.'
    Nancy Reagan felt she was the child who stepped up to the plate and quoted just months before her death, 'Maureen has been a great comfort to me these last few years, and has always filled in for Ronnie when she was asked.'
