Juror

The Resume

    (circa 1945- )
    Resident of South-Central Los Angeles
Manager in the Los Angeles County tax collection office
Foreperson of the jury in the O.J. Simpson murder trial
With fellow jurors Carrie Bess and Marsha Rubin-Jackson, wrote ‘Madam Foreman: A Rush to Judgment?’

Why she might be annoying:

Her first name often gets misspelled as ‘Amanda.’
When she and her fellow jurors returned a verdict in less than four hours, defense lawyer Robert Shapiro commented, ‘They’ve discussed this case less than anybody in America!’
When Geraldo Rivera asked her, ‘How can you explain away O.J.'s blood at the murder scene, found hours before his blood sample was taken?’ she replied ‘That was not one of the issues.’
The defendant’s blood at the murder scene ain’t an issue? Kinda explains how they got through nine months of evidence and testimony so quickly.
’People’ magazine’s assessment of ‘Madam Foreman’: ‘They interpret 'reasonable doubt' as any doubt whatsoever, and their reasoning is pocked with logical inconsistencies. This book should be marked Exhibit A in the argument that those who deserve most credit for springing Simpson were his jury consultants.’

Why she might not be annoying:

She wrote about being sequestered in a trial that was originally expected to last two months but dragged on for nine, ‘I’m thinking, Oh, it’ll be over in March. Then March comes and I’m thinking, I’ll give them until June. And they kept going on and on.’
She taught several jurors, including one of the men, how to crochet.
She said that if she had been on the jury in the civil trial, where the standard is ‘a preponderance of the evidence’ instead of ‘beyond a reasonable doubt,’ she would have ruled against Simpson.
Susan Beaubian, who portrayed her in the TV miniseries ‘The People vs. O.J. Simpson,’ earlier played the wife of O.J.’s character, Nordberg, in ‘The Naked Gun.’
