    He was performing on stage in 'Mr. Bluebeard' during the Iroquois Theater Fire that killed 600 people in Chicago.
    He once got into a drunken brawl with actor Charles Chapin over a girl.
    He was reportedly present during the gun fight at the O.K. Coral in 1881.
    He drafted his kids into his vaudeville act.
    He bravely stayed on stage until the last minute, attempting to keep the audience from panicking.
    He was portrayed in a movie by Bob Hope.
    His mother once tended to the mentally ill Mary Todd Lincoln.
    He was the son of Irish immigrants.
