    Acclaimed for her beauty and fashion sense, she was nicknamed 'The Mahogany Millionairess.'
    She was a renowned patroness of the arts, especially those involved in the Harlem Renaissance.
    She inherited her mother's business acumen.
    Some black elites shunned her due to her darker skin coloring.
    Upon her death, Langston Hughes penned the poem 'To A'Lelia,' which read in part: 'So all who have laughter/And joy and light/Let your prayers be as roses/For this queen of the night.'
