Directed the 'Odessa Steps' sequence (Battleship Potemkin), one of the most famous scenes in cinema history
Served in the Russian Army for the volunteer militia and the engineering corps (1917)

Why he might be annoying:

He suffered a nervous breakdown (1932).
His movie making style was so innovative that the average 1920's movie-goer had trouble understanding the storyline to his movies.
Many film critics and historians believe that 'The Battleship Potemkin' is an inaccurate account of the true events.
His films, most notably 'Ivan the Terrible,' are filled with Russian propaganda and false reenactments of history.

Why he might not be annoying:

He popularized the use of 'montage' in film making (editing together a series of images to abbreviate the time span between).
He attended the Institute of Civil Engineering in Petrograd.
He was inspired by the film editing of D. W. Griffith.
His essays have been published and used to teach film theory.
He influenced some of the greatest directors, including Orson Welles.
