The Resume

    (July 7, 1958- )
    International House of Pancakes
    Founded by Al Lapin, Jr.
    Mainly serves breakfast food items
    Headquartered in Glendale, California
    1,841 locations (December 31, 2019)

Why IHOP might be annoying:

Their unhealthiest menu item contains 2,350 Calories.
They have had a consistent tie-in with Blue Sky and the Minions franchise (usually involving food coloring dye on the pancakes).
Free Pancake Day usually turns out to be hell for its waitresses, as customers charge the place to order pancake stacks with water and then leave without tipping.
They sued the International House of Prayer in Kansas City for copyright infringement over its having the same acronym usage. The lawsuit was settled out of court (2010).
Its called the 'International' House but technically didn't open locations outside the US until 2014.
It tried to get away with changing its name to IHOb by flipping its 'P' upside-down to promote its new burger line (International House of Burgers).
The move was so widely panned that Netflix even trolled them on Twitter: 'brb changing my name to Netflib.'

Why IHOP might not be annoying:

It started out as a coffee delivery service empire.
The first location opened in Toluca Lake, Los Angeles, and is across the street from the oldest Bob's Big Boy location.
One of its founders designed movie posters for a living.
It bought out Applebee's in 2007, a merger creating the largest full-service restaurant company in the world (a hybrid of the two can be found in Detroit).
It is one of the only restaurants where the staff won't give you a dirty look for ordering pancakes for dinner.
They never tried to rip off the Aunt Jemima image in their advertising.
Its Free Pancake Day has raised almost $20 million for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and local charities.
They walked back the name change, publicly stating: 'We'd never turn our back on pancakes.' Priorities.
