Hockey Player
    (December 7, 1940- )
Born in St. Catharine's, Ontario, Canada
Goaltender for the Toronto Maple Leafs (1961-62) and the Boston Bruins (1965-72, 1975-80)
Head coach of the Boston Bruins (1980-85)
Hockey Hall of Fame inductee (1985)
    He was a heavy smoker.
Speculations are he had a clause in his contract that allowed him to consume beer during intermissions.
He was a minor league journeyman playing in the WHA, AHL, CPHL and EPHL.
He attempted to fake an injury in order to skip a practice session (1962).
Despite his accolades at the NHL level, he failed to win a Vezina Trophy.
He was considered a money goalie by hockey pundits.
He backstopped the Boston Bruins to two Stanley Cup titles in the early 1970's.
His 'stitch mask' is one of the most notable masks in hockey history.
His idea for the design was after every shot that struck his mask would have a stitch painted on it to remind him of where he would have received stitches.
He was remembered in a tribute song by Canadian punk band Chixdiggit.
While Steve Shields was with the Bruins, his goalie mask design paid tribute to Cheevers famed stitch mask.
