    Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
    Birth name was William Charles Linhart
    Played piano, guitar, drums, and vibraphone
    Recorded the albums ‘buzzy’ (1969), ‘Music’ (1970), ‘The Time to Live Is Now’ (1971), ‘Buzzy (The Black Album)’ (1972), and ‘Pussycats Can Go Far’ (1974)

Why he might be annoying:

    He would punctuate his singing with yells, scatting, and cartoonish noises.
    He was schizophrenic.
    Two of his marriages ended in divorce and he was separated from his third wife when he died.
    He fathered two daughters out of wedlock.
    He appeared as a nude hitchhiker in the film ‘The Groove Tube.’ (1974)
    He spent most of the 1980s homeless, sleeping in his car or crashing at friends’ apartments.

Why he might not be annoying:

    During a stint in the US Navy, he damaged his lungs while putting out a fire.
    In the 1960s in Greenwich Village, he was roommates with John Sebastian of the Lovin’ Spoonful.
    He taught Jesse Colin Young how to play ‘Get Together,’ which became the one big hit for Young’s band, the Youngbloods.
    He co-wrote ‘Friends,’ which became an unofficial theme song for Bette Midler, was performed by the cast of Zoom during the end credits, and was performed by Donkey (Eddie Murphy) in ‘Shrek.’
    In his later years, he helped run a medical marijuana co-op in Berkeley.
