    Wrote 'The Lagoo' (1952), 'Owls Do Cry' (1957), 'The Rainbirds' (1963), 'Daughter Buffalo' (1972), 'To the Is-land' (1982), 'An Angel at My Table' (1984) and 'The Envoy from Mirror City' (1985)

Why she might be annoying:

    She had very bad teeth.
    She was terrified of criticism.
    She bragged her family was connected to William of Orange.
    She fled her classroom when she was a student teacher and never returned.
    Much of her work is highly autobiographical.
    She became reclusive as she aged.

    Two of her sisters drowned when young on separate occasions.
    She was wrongly diagnosed with schizophrenia and institutionalized for eight years.
    She barely escaped being lobotomized.
    She won an award for a book she wrote while staying at a mental hospital.
    Her life story was made into an acclaimed film 'An Angel at My Table' (1990) by Jane Campion.
