    Born in Passaic, New Jersey
    Birth name was Joseph DiNicola
    Leader of Joey Dee and the Starliters
    House band at the Peppermint Lounge in New York City
    Recorded the singles 'The Peppermint Twist' (1961), 'Hey Let's Twist' (1962), 'Shout-Pt. 1' (1962), 'What Kind of Love Is This' (1963) and 'Hot Pastrami with Mashed Potatoes' (1963)
    He was originally a background singer and sax player for the Starliters until the producer of 'The Peppermint Twist' decided the lead singer was not getting the right feel and promoted Dee.
    He appeared in a quickie film to cash in on the twist craze, 'Hey Let's Twist.'
    After the British Invasion hit, he and the Starliters were relegated to being a lounge band.
    At various times, his touring band included three future members of the Young Rascals (Eddie Brigati, Gene Cornish and Felix Cavaliere) and Jimi Hendrix.
    The Ronnettes started as his back-up dancers/singers.
    He toured Europe with the Beatles as his opening act (November, 1963).
