Sports Team
    (1967-April 2012)
Located in East Rutherford, New Jersey
Formerly known as the New Jersey Americans (1967-68) and the New York Nets (1968-77)
Played in American Basketball Association (1967-76)
    Two ABA Championships (1974, 1976)
    No NBA Championships
    Six retired numbers: Drazen Petrovic's #3, Wendell Ladner's #4, John Williamson's #23, Bill Melchionni's #25, Julius Erving's #32, and Buck Williams' #52
Other former and current players include Jason Kidd, Kenyon Martin, and Jayson Williams
They didn't look farther than a basketball court to come up with their name.
They played in the middle of a swamp.
Their bad draft picks become legendary.
They reached the NBA Finals two years in a row (2002-03), but that had mostly to do with playing in a weak Eastern Conference.
They lost an ugly NBA Finals series to the San Antonio Spurs (2003).
They had to deal with Jayson Williams' broken legs and manslaughter trial.
They set an NBA record by losing their first 18 games, finally beating the Charlotte Bobcats 97-91 (December 4, 2009).
They brought the world Dr. J.
After he left them and won a title with the 76ers, the Nets upset them in the first round the next year (1984).
They were the last ABA champions, when they beat the Denver Nuggets 4 games to 2.
The late Drazen Petrovic, one of the first international NBA superstars, played for them.
After they acquired Jason Kidd in a trade, they became one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.
When they left New Jersey, they became the first major-league team to play in Brooklyn in almost 60 years.
