Five-time Pro Bowl selection (1951-53,1956,1959)
Named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame (1967) and College Football Hall of Fame (1968)

Why he might be annoying:

His nicknames included the Blonde Bomber and the Gadabout Gladiator.
He was almost as well known for his late night bar-hopping as his on field successes.
The day after one late party, two teammates reportedly had to dunk him into a of cold water to wake him up for the game.
When he was traded to Pittsburgh, he allegedly cursed the Lions, saying they would not win for 50 years.
In the curse's final year, the Lions went 0-16 for the worst season in NFL history.

Why he might not be annoying:

His father died when he was a toddler and his mother left him to be raised by an aunt and uncle.
He was one of the first masters of the two minute drill.
One sportswriter noted, 'Layne is not the best passer in the league by a pretty long margin. He's certainly not the best runner either. But he damn sure is the best winner.'
Sports Illustrated called him 'the toughest quarterback who ever lived.' (1995)
At least he was considerate enough to put a statute of limitations on his curse, unlike Babe Ruth or the billy goat.
