The Resume

    (June 29, 1930-October 26, 2019)
Birth name is Robert J. Shapera
Head of Paramount studios during the years it produced such legendary films as 'Rosemary's Baby,' 'Love Story' and 'The Godfather'
Personally produced films such as 'Chinatown,' 'Marathon Man,' 'Popeye' and 'The Cotton Club' among others
Started his career acting in films such as 'Man of a Thousand Faces' and 'The Sun Also Rises'
His rise and fall (and rise again) is chronicled in the documentary 'The Kid Stays in the Picture'
    Was married to Ali MacGraw
Known for his large, square-framed, tinted eyeglasses

Why he might be annoying:

He is divorced from Ali MacGraw.
He has married five times more, with one marriage only lasting 10 days.
He admitted that he wasn't a very good actor.
He had a large ego in his prime and liked things done his way.
While many of his gambles paid off, others, like his involvement with 'The Cotton Club,' were disastrous from the start.
He was charged for his role in an attempt to buy pharmaceutical cocaine.
He was constantly being questioned by the media after a fellow producer and acquaintance was found murdered (it caused him to go into seclusion).
By the late 80s, his career was all but dead and he suffered from depression, considering suicide.
He successfully escaped from a mental hospital he had checked himself into.
His stories are sometimes long-winded and he often has to be interrupted by the host to put in a commercial break.

Why he might not be annoying:

He and his brother owned a women's clothing company in New York.
His big break came as a fluke, when Norma Shearer spotted him at a pool in Beverly Hills and offered him a movie role.
He single handedly saved Paramount studios from going bankrupt and made them the most sought after studio for much of the 70s.
He personally produced many hit films.
Despite his alienation from Paramount in the 80s, he returned to the studio in the 90s and has produced several successful projects with them since.
He was the inspiration for the character played by Dustin Hoffman in 'Wag the Dog' (1997).
He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (May 2002).
    He is very quotable.
He has remained a part of Paramount studios for over 30 years, longer than anyone else in the industry.
